When observing this digipak I realised that there wasn’t an image of the star artist this has already came to my attention that the artist wants the audience to perceive the band as an inexplicable figure. When analysing the front on the digipak it seems plain and basic however it sets the theme of the rest of the digipak the title is clear this is helped by the different background colours. The title is in a diverse font with the letter ’R’ stretched towards the next letter the central image draws the attention of the audience straight away because it is the most dominant and only image on the page. When first seeing this image I thought that it was quiet odd however it seems to me that perhaps this image is a logo of some sort which allows audiences to acknowledge who the artist is. Which could be the reason why the artist didn’t show their image properly knowing that fans of distorture would only need this symbol to be aware of there album. However for new audience it will have a inefficient effect because the symbol wouldn’t have the same effect a image of the band would have which would allow new audiences to have a connection with the band and draw them in. The different colours represent the band as being distress and may convey there different sides the white could express ‘purity’ and the red may symbolise ‘evil’.
When looking inside the digipak the packaging has a pale white hand really emphasises on the blood to make it look more intimidating it has a main image a close-up shot showing of a hand terrifyingly drenched in blood and the colour red is a sign of danger pain and suffering. When looking image I could see that the image is in black and white which also could have been used to set a particular tone or mood to the audience and already expresses what type of music would be inside the album. The images have been purposely used to make the artist and their album controversially stated the colours used in the inside of the digipak really cements its meaning and brings its presence to the digipak allowing people to already understand how there feeling without listening to the CD.The packaging promots the band by using the colours and the images of the blood and the hand attract people and try to have that connection with there target auidence.
The name of the artist or band is Distorture and they seem to have their own unique style and image for their band. As they are a folk band this design and layout is not what you would typically expect from this band. The digipak is rather different to other digipaks that I have analysed very simple but has a strong meaning and presence allowing the audience to be drawn in by its simplicity but powerful meaning. The way that it is laid out it perhaps for the there target audience which like the genre of the music has been described as Folk, Ambient Industrial music this is definitely not what would be expected of a folk band and things that come to mind are guitars and nature.
The back of the digipak shows a box image of the hand covered in blood allowing people to understand the theme of the album without having to listen to the CD. The packaging overall lacks a lot of crucial information when it comes to a digipak. It has been laid out to emphasis on the bold images instead of the information on the band. The album is called revere which means to regard with awe, deference, and devotion which suggest that the band have many different aims awe the power to inspire dread defence would be to protect there selves. Devotion could mean they would devote there selves to a cause to a purpose and all these things would be explained more clearly in the album which again would interest people and bring in a bigger audience.
I feel that they are a very optimistic band and have been ambitions for their future as the images are what really intrigues the audience therefore makes the band more recognized and make them want to pick it up without even knowing what type of music the band sing. Distorture is a New Zealand duo experimenting in dark folk & ambient, noise & industrial
